Thundermist CEO Is Leaving

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

After nearly one and a half decades at the helm of Thundermist, it is with mixed emotions that I let you know that I will be leaving my position as CEO of Thundermist on Friday, June 17, 2011. This past year, my husband accepted a wonderful new position in Des Moines, Iowa. Now it is time for me to join him. He and I began our married life in the Midwest 30 years ago, so it seems fitting that as "empty nesters," we will spend time there again. I plan to spend the next six months helping Thundermist with its leadership transition and getting to know Des Moines.

It will be hard for me to leave Thundermist! I have truly loved leading this incredible organization and working with such a wonderful staff and board. We have accomplished a great deal during these past 14 years. I believe that Thundermist's future is very bright. The senior leadership and the Executive Committee of our board have been working closely with me over the past few months to plan for Thundermist's transition of leadership. I will be leaving the health center in very capable hands. Chuck Jones, our Woonsocket Executive Director and CIO, will serve as Interim CEO, starting June 18th.

Beginning in July, our Board will conduct a rigorous search for a new CEO, who will likely begin early in 2012. The Board and I are confident that with the execution of these plans, Thundermist will maintain its strength until a permanent CEO is appointed.

Over the next two months, as I continue in my role as CEO, I hope to have the opportunity to introduce Chuck to many of you who may not have had the opportunity to work with him yet. I also welcome the chance to express my gratitude, in person, to many of you for our years of collaboration.

On that note, the Thundermist Foundation will hold a farewell event for me on June 14th at The Botanical Gardens in Roger Williams Park. An electronic invitation will go out next month.

On my final day at Thundermist I have the pleasure of hosting our spectacular summer dinner/dance, Moonlight at the Dunes, which will take place on Friday, June 17th at the Dunes Club in Narragansett. Please join us there, if you can, to celebrate with me and to support the health center that I will always hold near and dear to my heart.

Sincerely,
Maria
