Thundermist participates in a wide range of preventive health programs sponsored by RI Department of Health. These programs include immunization programs, STD screening, HIV testing, lead screening, diabetes control, Title X family planning, adolescent and school-based health care initiatives.
Thundermist runs one of Rhode Island’s two Ryan White Title III Early Intervention Services programs for comprehensive care to HIV positive patients, including disease specialty care through its affiliation with Brown University, comprehensive primary care, clinical trials, mental health counseling, dental services and case management.
Thundermist runs a school-based health center at the Woonsocket High School and the West Warwick Middle School/High School serving students from those two schools. The school-based health center offer prevention programs specifically geared to adolescents, including obesity management, nutritional education, family planning and STD screening, behavioral health counseling, dental screening, preventive and episodic care.
Thundermist delivers almost 250 babies each year in Woonsocket. Our strong prenatal programs offer hope to low-income women and adolescents who turn to Thundermist to make sure their babies are born healthy and strong.
In Woonsocket, Thundermist began a partnership with the Women & Infants Healthcare Alliance in December of 2011. Dr. Robert Williams, from the Alliance, and Thundermist Midwives are 100% dedicated to office care and see all OB/GYN patients. Wait times in the Women's Health Department have been completely eliminated. Deliveries now take place at Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, a national leader in women's health care.
The Women & Infants Healthcare Alliance is also partnering with Thundermist in West Warwick. In February of 2012 Thundermist began OB/GYN services with Dr. Sara Delaporta, Dr. Tanya Rodriguez, and Dr. Nhu Hang. The doctors will be overseen by Dr. Bethany Wortman of the Alliance. Deliveries will take place at Kent Hospital.
Thundermist provides all CLIA waived diagnostic tests on-site, including pregnancy testing, oral HIV testing, rapid in-office assays, glucose screening, urinalysis and microscopic specimen analysis. All other diagnostic laboratory services are provided through contractual arrangement with Lifespan Labs.
