Trans* Health Access
Formed in the spring of 2015, the Trans* Health Access Team is a group of medical, behavioral health, and allied service professionals, working to improve access to culturally and clinically competent healthcare for the trans* community.
Trans* is an umbrella term that encompasses many identities including transgender, transsexual, gender non-conforming/variant/creative, non-binary, intersex, agender, and others. The program was created in response to an increase in requests from providers, staff, patients, and community partners, to improve access to primary care for trans* individuals in Rhode Island.
Our vision is that every member of the Thundermist community has the opportunity to lead a happy and productive life, built on a foundation of good health. We recognize that we have a responsibility to act proactively and deliberately to address the discrimination trans* individuals face in the health care system, and to address the many health disparities experienced by trans* people. We must do so to make good on our mission and to work towards our vision.
Trans* individuals seeking health care at Thundermist can contact our call center and request to see a Trans* Health Access Team provider. Our services include medical, dental, and behavioral health care, in a caring and compassionate patient centered medical home. Patients must be a Thundermist primary care patient to access Thundermist behavioral health services.
