Thundermist Health Center of South County and Reach Out & Read Rhode Island Host a Free Reading Event for Children
Wakefield, RI (December 7, 2015) – On Tuesday, December 15 at 1:15 P.M., Thundermist Health Center and Reach Out and Read Rhode Island will partner together to host a reading event for children to recognize South County Health’s commitment to sponsor the Reach Out and Read program at Thundermist South County. The event will take place at Thundermist Health Center of South County, located at 1 River Street, Wakefield.Reach Out and Read RI created the “adopt-a-site” program as a way of engaging organizations and businesses to giving back to their communities. “Local businesses take pride in, and want to contribute to, the long term vitality of the communities where their employees live and work,” said Susanna Beckwith, RORRI’s Executive Director.
The mission of Reach Out and Read Rhode Island is to prepare the state’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. South County Health’s sponsorship of the program means that they will cover the full cost of operating the Reach Out and Read program at Thundermist South County, enabling Thundermist doctors to provide a free book at every well-child visit from 6 months – 5 years of age along with a proven-effective “prescription to read”.
Book readings start at 1:15 PM, by Chuck Jones, President & CEO of Thundermist Health Center, and South County Health’s President and CEO, Louis Giancola. Each child in attendance will receive a free book, and the first 30 children attending this event will receive a free bike helmet. Healthy snacks will also be available.
This event is free and open to the public. Participants do not need to be a Thundermist patient to attend.
