Partnership between Thundermist Health Center and Delta Dental
Provides Free Dental Care to Rhode Island Veterans

(Woonsocket – September 16, 2022) – When veterans experience homelessness and need dental care, they turn to Thundermist and Operation Stand Down. For nearly fifteen years, Thundermist has provided free dental care to more than 1,000 Rhode Island veterans.

“Delta Dental is proud to support Thundermist Health Center and Operation Stand Down to ensure vulnerable populations like our state’s homeless veterans have access to the critical dental care they need,” said Joseph Perroni, President and CEO of Delta Dental of Rhode Island. “Thank you to the dentists, hygienists and dental assistants who volunteered their time to make this possible.”

With the support of Delta Dental, Thundermist served 58 veterans at Operation Stand Down, providing 40 veterans with dental cleanings. The Thundermist team treats veterans’ immediate dental needs and connects them to ongoing care at one of our three locations in Woonsocket, West Warwick, or Wakefield.

“We are grateful to be able to provide our veterans with free dental care,” said Jeanne LaChance, President and CEO of Thundermist Health Center. “The work we do at Operation Stand Down is directly in line with our mission to improve the health of our patients and community by removing barriers to that care.”

Operation Stand Down is an annual two-day program to assist area veterans experiencing homelessness to secure social, medical, legal, and housing assistance. The dental exams and cleanings performed can make a difference when someone is experiencing homelessness and looking for work.
