Thundermist has received its largest single grant award in its 40+ year history!

Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded Thundermist a Capital Development – Building Capacity Grant in the amount of $5,000,000 to replace the 100-year old health center in South County.

Chuck Jones, Thundermist CEO, said, “We are excited to receive this Building Capacity Grant.  Our facility in South County was a former furniture store and has been retrofitted many times since we moved into the space in 1987.  The building is not conducive to our team-care approach that we  utilize in our newer Woonsocket and West Warwick facilities.”

The new building will be built on the same property occupied by the current health center (1 River Street, Wakefield) and is slated to open in Spring 2015.  Once the new health center is completed, the current building will be demolished and turned into the center’s parking lot.

Thundermist also received a HRSA Capital Development – Immediate Facility Improvements Grant in the amount of $228,812 to expand the West Warwick Dental Department.  Mr. Jones explained, “The needs of our West Warwick Dental Department continue to grow and this grant will allow us to meet the community need.”

Mr. Jones concluded, “We are deeply grateful to the RI Congressional Delegation for their support on these two grant awards.”
