Thundermist Offers PrEP Services to Expand Access to Medication to Help Prevent HIV
Warwick – March 1, 2020
Thundermist offers PrEP services on a walk-in basis at all Convenient Care locations. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) is when people at risk for HIV take daily medicine to prevent HIV. PrEP can stop HIV from taking hold and spreading throughout your body.
PrEP is a new, safe, HIV prevention method for HIV-negative people to reduce the risk of becoming infected. PrEP pills need to be taken daily to help prevent HIV. PrEP is recommended for people at high risk for HIV infection. PrEP is up to 99% effective in preventing HIV when taken every day.
We established this program to expand access to medication to help prevent HIV. PrEP will be administered by Convenient Care staff following a negative HIV test. Staff will be available for patients in need of counseling and further education regarding PrEP services.
